Prineville, Ore. – The Oregon Department of Transportation and Crook County are alerting drivers to expect delays through much of February and March along Oregon Highway 126 between Redmond and Prineville.

ODOT will enhance safety and accessibility on two portions of the highway by widening and replacing guardrails on two cancel bridges, according to a county press release. ODOT’s project details said travelers should expect “significant delays”.

The first stage of construction is scheduled to begin February 3 on the North Unit canal bridge at milepost 3 near the Redmond Airport.

“Beginning February 3, 2025: N. Unit Canal Bridge (MP 3) traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled 24/7 with temporary portable traffic signals installed at either end of the bridge for approximately 4 weeks,” said ODOT.

Then in March, the project will transition to the COID Canal Bridge.

“COID Canal Bridge (MP 10.5) traffic will be reduced to a single lane and controlled by 24/7 flagging for approximately 4 weeks.”

The work is part of a larger $13.6 million project that involved the repaving that particular section of the highway, as well as adding curb ramp and sidewalk improvements.
