Prineville, Ore. – A fast-moving wildfire is threatening homes and property in the Juniper Canyon and Davis Road area south of Prineville, prompting immediate evacuation orders and a large-scale emergency response from local, state, and federal agencies.
According to the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, the fire remains uncontained and is actively burning in the dry, brush-covered terrain between Juniper Canyon Road and Davis Road. Fire suppression units from Crook County Fire and Rescue, the Sheriff’s Office, and multiple state and federal agencies are on scene attempting to control the blaze.
Evacuation orders are currently in effect for areas between Juniper Canyon Road and Davis Road, and officials have warned that those evacuation levels may change at a moment’s notice. Residents are urged to evacuate if directed and to monitor live updates through the WATCH DUTY app or the Crook County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
An evacuation shelter for displaced residents has been set up at Eastside Church, located on NE 3rd Street at the east end of Prineville. A livestock evacuation center is also operational at Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte.
Crook County Sheriff John Gautney urged the public to steer clear of the affected area to ensure the safety of both evacuees and emergency responders.
“Please, we are asking the public to stay out of the area and allow those who need to evacuate access to the roadways. If you are not actively helping with animal and people evacuation, STAY OUT of the area,” said Gautney.
Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
