Prineville, Ore. – A heavy police presence converged on the area of 9th Street and Harwood Avenue late Saturday morning after multiple reports of gunfire prompted an urgent response.
According to the Prineville Police Department, Crook County 911 received several calls at approximately 11:15 a.m. reporting shots fired in the neighborhood. Officers rushed to the scene, where the individual involved was quickly located and apprehended. Authorities say the suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for treatment before being taken into custody.
Police emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Detectives remain on scene this afternoon, and certain blocks around 9th Street will stay closed while evidence is collected.
Several local residents uploaded videos to social media shortly after the incident, showing both Prineville Police officers and Crook County Sheriff’s deputies moving in on the suspect. In one widely circulated clip, officers can be heard repeatedly giving commands to the individual before directing nearby occupants of a vehicle to leave the area for their safety. The tense scene drew the attention of neighbors, many of whom posted updates online as police secured the area.
“At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the community,” said Prineville Police.
Detectives are continuing to investigate, and police have not yet released the name of the suspect or details about what led to the shooting. Authorities say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
