Update: This story was updated at 5:20 pm on 2/27 to include details of a press release from the Crook County Sheriff’s Office. It was later updated at 11:05 pm to after the CCSO sent a correction on the date the horse was seized.

Prineville, Ore. – Early today, the Crook County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) posted that it was seeking support in the form of hay for a seized horse as part of a criminal investigation for animal neglect.

It didn’t take long before CCSO updated its post on Facebook to report that it had received hay donations it requested a couple of hours prior.

“[W]e have received hay donations and we have enough at this time!” wrote CCSO. It explained they didn’t have any more room to store additional hay.

“We thank the community for their generosity and will reach back out if more is needed!”

The post had originally explained that a horse had come into its care and that an investigation was underway at this time, sharing a photo of the horse with extremely overgrown front hooves.

“We have a horse that came into our care and an investigation is underway,” the post stated.

According to a CCSO press release sent shortly after the original publication, the horse was seized last month on Feb. 26th, following an investigation stemming from a Feb. 21st report of alleged “lack of care.”

The statement also again thanked the community for the support of donated hay and the assistance from a local veterinary hospital: “The Crook County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank HomeTown Animal Hospital in Prineville for their assistance.”

CCSO also confirmed in its earlier Facebook post that the horse was receiving veterinary care and would be getting trimmed soon. “The horse is under veterinary care and getting a pedicure soon!”
