Prineville, Ore. – The City of Prineville formally welcomed a new law enforcement veteran to its department during a public city council meeting on Oct. 22nd.

Thomas “Lance” Woodward, a lateral hire and former officer with the Baker City Police Department, was formally sworn in by Interim Chief Shane Wilson. Woodward served approximately 9 years in Baker City, having also served about 9 years with the Sunriver Police Department where he started his law enforcement career.

Wilson explained that while Woodward was new to Prineville, he was not new to law enforcement, having an 18-year career with his previous two agencies. Woodward and his wife recently moved back to Prineville to be closer to family.

“While working at the Baker City Police Department, Lance spent a good degree of his time as a school resource officer,” explained Wilson.

“Lance holds bachelors of arts degree in political science, he holds a Masters of Arts in English, additionally holds a Masters of Arts in Theological Essentials.”

“Obviously he just barely met the minimum educational requirements,” joked Wilson, with laughs in the audience.

Woodward was also said to have taught English for two years after receiving his MA in English.

“One of Lance’s hobbies and passions is to learn new languages — he’s studied German, Russian, Japanese, and is currently studying French and Greek,” Wilson added.
