Prineville, Ore. — One person was found dead after an RV caught fire late Tuesday night in Prineville, according to a statement from the Prineville Police Department.
Prineville Police and Crook County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Northwest Gardner Road at approximately 11:37 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25th, following a report of a structure fire.
When first responders arrived, they found an RV fully engulfed in flames, police said.
As crews worked to extinguish the fire, responders learned the RV had been occupied. After the fire was brought under control, one person was found deceased inside.
The identity of the person has not been released, with police saying it is being withheld out of respect for the family.
The cause of the fire and circumstances surrounding the death have not been released. Police said Wednesday morning that the investigation remains ongoing and asked members of the public to avoid the area while investigators continue their work.
No additional information was immediately available.
“The Prineville Police Department extends its condolences to the family,” the department said in its statement, while also thanking the Crook County Sheriff’s Office and Crook County Fire and Rescue for assisting with the incident.
